Information is available regarding fee schedules, realty transfer taxes, office hours, office location and mailing address through our automated telephone system or you can speak to a representative of the office on other matters of concern.  In addition, Honorable Discharge records and other related forms are filed as a courtesy to veterans without charge.

Map Room: extension 243

Maps of Essex County's 22 municipalities are filed here along with minor and major subdivisions of property within the county. Paper copies may be obtained for a fee.

Searchers Vault: extension 233, 234 & 235

The Record Room is the repository for copies of all legal documents which have been recorded within the County since its creation in 1637. The public has access rights to these documents and are permitted to make searches. 

The records are available for public inspection between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. By law, staff cannot conduct a title search, although upon request, the staff will familiarize the public with the indexing method and demonstrate how to use the books. 

Recording: extension 224, 225, 226, 227 & 228

All documents affecting estate ownership and transfer of property within Essex County are filed and recorded by reference number, given a book and page number and indexed by computer into an alphabetical listing by  the names of all parties. This index is available for reference by the public.
